TANZANIA
We source our coffee from "Mbili Twiga," which translates to "two giraffes." The name highlights the unity and collaboration within the co-operative. The region primarily cultivates Bourbon and Kent coffee varieties, both known for their excellent flavour profiles and drought tolerance. We take pride in sourcing high-quality coffee from this historic and vibrant region.
The farms that are part of this co-operative partnership are KARATU and MAKIIDI RCS. Farms which during peak season will see employment for around 500 workers from the area. Alongside coffee, MAKIIDI RCS also grows cash crops and in some areas, chameleons are looked to to provide predation for the Antiestia bug, which makes holes in the coffee and can spoilt the beans.
BRAZIL
Deterra was the 1st farm in Brazil to be certified Rainforest Alliance and the
1st farm in the world to receive level A certification from Rainforest Alliance.
They currently have over 3,000 hectares (almost the size of 4,000 football pitches) of land preserved for environmental conservation. Within this, they have just finished installing their own reservoir which will irrigate 100% of the farm by 2030. They have a solar farm on their land which produces enough electricity to power 120 homes in the local area and they have their own nursery where they are planting native trees to create wildlife corridors.
Beyond sustainabile solutions, Deterra are pioneers in coffee innovation, designing equipment to process and sort the coffee in a more sustainable and efficient way.
