PRIDE MONTH 2025 🏳️‍🌈

At Change Please, we know that real change starts with awareness. Pride Month gives us the opportunity  to shine a light on important conversations, celebrate diversity, and continue building a more inclusive and equitable society.

In celebration of Pride Month, we’ll be exploring key topics that continue to shape  a community rooted in pride, dignity, and resilience. We’ll honour the past, embrace the present, and look ahead to a more just and inclusive future. Through these conversations, we hope to deepen understanding, inspire action, and stand proudly in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community.

 Key Statistics✒️

 Hidden Homelessness:

  •  26% of LGBTQ+ young people have experienced hidden homelessness, including sofa surfing or squatting (akt, 2024)
  • Among transgender young people, this rises to 33%. (akt, 2024)

Overrepresentation in Homeless Populations:

  • A UK Government Equalities Office report found that LGBTQ+ individuals are overrepresented in homeless populations. While just 1.4% of the general population identify as LGBTQ+, they make up 16% of young people in temporary accommodation. (GOV.UK, 2024)

Support for the LGBTQ+ community Facing Homelessness❤️

There are several organisations across the UK offering vital support to the LGBTQ+ community facing homelessness:

  • akt supports LGBTQ+ young people aged 16–25 who are homeless or living in a hostile environment, providing tailored assistance to help them find safety and stability.
  • Stonewall Housing offers housing advice and support specifically for LGBTQ+ people across the UK.
  • In London, The Outside Project operates an LGBTQ+ shelter and community centre, providing emergency accommodation alongside a range of support services.

This month we will continue to celebrate Pride by exploring different topics that have contributed to the  growth of the movement globally.
