Strawberry Flash Brew Iced Coffee Strawberry Flash Brew Iced Coffee

Strawberry Flash Brew Iced Coffee

When the weather warms up, there's nothing quite like a refreshing iced coffee that lets the coffee itself shine. This Strawberry Flash Brew combines the naturally fruity notes of our Muyumbu Rwanda coffee with sweet strawberry purée, creating a drink that's vibrant, refreshing, and incredibly easy to make at home.

Flash brewing is one of the best ways to enjoy specialty coffee over ice. By brewing directly onto ice, you instantly cool the coffee, locking in its bright acidity, delicate sweetness, and crisp flavour. The result is a smooth, refreshing iced coffee that tastes clean and balanced rather than watered down.

What You'll Need

Ingredients

For the Flash Brew

  • 30g freshly ground Muyumbu Rwanda coffee (medium/filter grind)
  • 250g hot water (92–96°C, just off the boil)
  • Ice (enough to fill the Chemex and your serving glass)

To Serve

  • 1–2 tbsp strawberry purée
  • Extra ice
  • Optional: cold milk for a creamier version

Brewing Method

1. Prepare Your Brewer

  • Place ice into the Chemex.
  • Add 30g of ground coffee to your filter paper.

2. Bloom

  • Start your timer.
  • Pour 70g of hot water over the coffee grounds.
  • Allow the coffee to bloom for 30 seconds.

3. Second Pour

  • At 30 seconds, slowly pour to 150g water using gentle circular motions.

4. Final Pour

  • At 1 minute, continue pouring until you reach 250g total water.
  • Maintain a slow, even circular pour.

5. Finish Brewing

  • Allow the coffee to draw down completely.
  • Aim for a total brew time of 2–2½ minutes.
  • Give the Chemex a gentle swirl to cool the coffee before removing the filter paper.

6. Serve

  • Add strawberry purée to your serving glass.
  • Swirl the purée around the inside of the glass.
  • Pour the flash brew coffee over the strawberry purée.
  • Add ice.
  • Enjoy as is, or add a splash of cold milk for a creamier strawberry iced coffee.

Top Tip: This recipe also works beautifully with raspberry or blueberry purée if you're using naturally fruity specialty coffees.
