Welcome Guest - Migoti Hill, Burundi

Each month, we open our doors to something new - a specialty guest coffee that brings fresh character, fresh flavour and a fresh perspective to your cup.

This month’s Welcome Guest takes us to the highlands of Bujumbura Province, Burundi, where coffee is grown at around 1,800 masl among the mountains surrounding Mutambu Commune.

Produced by Migoti Coffee, this lot comes from over 1,200 smallholder farmers working across the surrounding highlands. Founded in 2015, Migoti was established with a simple ambition: to improve the livelihoods of local coffee farmers by connecting them with international buyers through quality processing and transparent supply chains.

This Red Bourbon coffee is fully washed, bringing clarity and balance to the cup while allowing its natural sweetness and character to shine. Expect a beautifully rounded flavour profile with notes of almond, cola and raisin: nutty, sweet and gently complex.

Migoti Coffee works with a growing community of smallholder farmers across the highlands of Bujumbura Province. Their two washing stations bring together coffee from more than 1,200 farmers, with a dedicated team overseeing sorting, drying and quality control throughout the harvest.

But Migoti's relationship with farmers goes beyond purchasing their coffee. Each year, the team invites the farmers they work with to the washing station to taste the coffee they've produced. It's an opportunity to experience their harvest from a completely different perspective, often with milk and sugar, as drinking coffee black isn't traditionally common in the region.

Migoti also provides locally roasted coffee for farmers to take home, helping them discover their own crop in a new way and build a deeper connection with the coffee they produce.
