Welcome Guest - Sasini, Kenya
Each month, we open our doors to something new - a specialty guest coffee that brings fresh character, fresh flavour and a fresh perspective to your cup.
This month’s Welcome Guest takes us to the lush highlands of Kiambu County, Kenya, where rich volcanic soils and high elevations create the perfect conditions for exceptional coffee.
Produced by Sasini Coffee Factory on the renowned Tinganga Estate, this coffee has been cultivated with care since 1952. Sitting at 1,830 masl, the estate combines generations of expertise with sustainable farming practices to produce coffees celebrated for their clarity, sweetness and complexity.
Made up of Batian, Ruiru 11, SL28 and SL34 varietals, this fully washed lot is carefully harvested by hand, fermented for up to 16 hours, and slowly dried on raised beds to bring out its distinctive character. The result is a beautifully balanced cup with notes of maple syrup, sweet spices and clementines: comforting, vibrant and wonderfully refined.
Sasini PLC has been producing coffee in Kenya's Highlands for more than 70 years, with six estates dedicated to growing and processing exceptional coffee. At Tinganga Estate, quality begins in the field, where only perfectly ripe cherries are hand-picked before being carefully washed, fermented and dried. Alongside producing outstanding coffee, Sasini is committed to responsible farming. Water is cleaned and reused during processing, coffee pulp is composted into organic fertiliser, shade trees are planted across the estate, and ongoing agronomic support helps growers continually improve both quality and sustainability.
