Your present with purpose doesn't just provide Barista Training; they also help us support our trainees in any way they need, from accommodation advice to therapy.

We interviewed Head of support, Damaris, and Change Please Therapist, Earl on the importance of therapy and support for people experiencing homelessness. Damaris has had 20 years experience working in NHS mental health and trauma services and Earl is trained psychoanalysis.

Why is it important to offer mental health support to people experiencing homelessness?
"We work with people who have experienced multiple traumas and numerous difficulties this coupled with overloaded systems that are unable to cope with the level of need means that the people we work with have also experienced, failure and therefore mistrust of those that are meant to support them.
We feel it is essential to have a holistic approach that addresses both their basic needs e.g. housing, finances and their emotional needs including the impact their experiences may have had on them."

What support do you offer Change Please trainees?
"Beyond the barista training, we offer support through counselling as we understand that many of the people we work with, have or are experiencing PTSD. We also offer individual support that focuses on Employment skills and support meeting work expectations, Advocacy and liaising with accommodation, UC, immigration, physical and mental health services including access to physio services and specialist therapy and Support with preparing for and accessing therapy."

Why did you want to work with Change Please?
"I’m passionate about the work that Change Please does and I want to contribute to the great work that they do."

How. is the support Change Please offer different to that other companies/charities?
"What’s different about change Please is that we look at all the support we offer from a holistic perspective. We are able to offer individual holistic support and we are able to support trainees to access therapy even after graduating from the programme."
