Coffee with a Cause: A Brew Monday on BBC Radio 4
Jan 19, 2026
It’s Brew Monday, a moment to pause, reflect, and find comfort in a good cup of coffee, and this year, BBC Radio 4’s Café Hope offered listeners exactly that.
Our Founder, Cemal Ezel, recently joined host Rachel Burden to share the story behind our journey: one that began with a life-changing trip to Vietnam and grew into a social enterprise that has been fighting homelessness through ethically grown, delicious coffee for over a decade.
During the conversation, Cemal reflected on discovering a renewed sense of purpose while travelling, and how that insight led him to open the first coffee shop in Peckham more than 10 years ago. What started as a single idea rooted in community and dignity has since grown into a movement spanning the UK and beyond, creating opportunities for people affected by homelessness through training, employment, and long-term support.
Cemal also spoke about the belief that underpins the organisation’s model; that business can, and should, be a force for good. By reinvesting 100% of its profits back into the business, the organisation continues to focus on impact as well as quality, proving that great coffee and meaningful change can go hand in hand.
The episode offers listeners an honest and hopeful insight into the power of purpose-led enterprise, human connection, and the role everyday choices can play in creating social change.
A thoughtful and inspiring listen for Brew Monday, and beyond. ☕
